I am going on vacation from July 9 -29 this month, returning on July 30. During that time, the Chaplaincy (and all programs) will close. This will give community and church volunteers a much needed break too!

Throughout July, other programs and services in the Carlington area are operating, including the Carlington Community Health Centre, City of Ottawa Parks and Recreation (the gym and community centre), and the Caldwell Family Centre.

When we return at the end of the month, we look forward to resuming the Chaplain's Open Door Drop-In, Creative Path, Bible Study and Worship, and Outreach. See you in August!

Our AGM (Annual General Meeting) is around the corner (June 19, 2012), and we are looking for new Board members! The Carlington Community Chaplaincy is a vital, ecumenical ministry of presence that has been serving the community for 25 years now. The Board of Directors plays an active role in that service. They provide important oversight and management functions, including the important trust of managing our finances, overseeing the hiring of staff (like me!), and ensuring that we are fulfilling the mission that we were set out to do.

We need people like YOU to help make that happen. There are several positions open right now. Please consider offering your time, talents and gifts to the Chaplaincy in this important way. To find out more about what the job of Board member entails, please see our job description. You can also contact the Chaplaincy to learn more. Give us a call at (613) 728-9933. We hope to hear from you!

Welcome to our new website! Many, many thanks to the student team at Algonquin College who put it together. I have since learned that they earned an 'A' for the project!

This year we are celebrating 25 years of ministry in the Carlington area. It is amazing what has been accomplished here in that time! I have gone through pictures and written histories of the Chaplaincy, and spoken with community members and long-time volunteers about events and activities that have come and gone at the Chaplaincy (as well as some that continue, like the Women's Group, and of course the pastoral care that we offer).

This new website is a place where you can find out more about the Chaplaincy, the Carlington community, and about what we are up to in this vibrant, diverse area of Ottawa. Check in regularly to this blog, the News and Events section, and Members' Stories, where community members who are part of the Chaplaincy tell their personal stories. If you are a Board member, there is a place where we will post minutes and other relevant documents. You can also donate, print out a volunteer form, check out our Facebook page, Twitter, and of course, contact us. We look forward to hearing from you, and seeing you at one of our programs and events!

Check back soon and follow the Chaplaincy's new blog!

This is the Chaplain's Blog. I will let you know about events and activities at the Chaplaincy and in the Carlington community. I will also comment, from time to time, on issues related to living in social housing in Ottawa.
